CPSL Football League - Friar's Grove 0 v 7 Kelvedon

Our school football team got back to winning ways with an impressive 7 nil victory away at Friar's Grove.

                                             AFTER MATCH REPORT

On Monday the 27^th of November 2017 Kelvedon took on Friars Grove. The first half was tight as Friars Grove had a strong midfield. Luckily, Lewis Banks converted one in from a corner; the first half ended 1-0 to Kelvedon. The second half started and Kelvedon were going in for the win! Not long after the start of the second half Ollie Wood had a shot on target but it was saved by the keeper; luckily Luke Towler was there to finish it off. Shortly after Friars Grove were on the attack but it was firmly intercepted by James Rogers and Kelvedon were on the counter attack. James Rogers passed it to Luke Towler who passed down the line to Lewis Banks then, Lewis made an unstoppable pass to Harry Taylor who smashed the ball into the back of the net. A classic counter attack goal from Kelvedon to make it 3-0! Would there be time for a comeback?

Friars Grove were keeping possession of the ball until Ollie Wood was eager to get the ball back and so he did. He was through on goal but unselfishly he passed the ball across the goal to Luke Towler who finished an open goal. 4-0 to Kelvedon. Fortunately, we won a penalty through Ollie Wood being tripped up in the penalty box. James Rogers stepped up to the penalty, but sadly missed; Luke Towler came in from the rebound. He hit the crossbar and it came back to the penalty taker James Rogers, and he amazingly flicked it to Luke Towler who finished it off! 5-0 to Kelvedon. Next straight after Friars Grove kick-off Adam Lilywhite won it back through a brilliant tackle and Kelvedon were on the attack. James Rogers played a through ball to Ollie Wood who ran through the defence and slotted it into the bottom corner! 6-0. Instantly, the Friars Grove player’s heads dropped and gave away a corner. Finlay Newton’s skilful cross was half-volleyed by Harry Taylor to make it 7-0. A fantastic win for Kelvedon.

Kelvedon 2 v Heathlands 6

Our school football team played their playoff match against Heathlands over at Thurstable today.

Unfortunately, we ended up on the wrong end of a 6 v 2 defeat. The scoreline was a little harsh on the players who gave their all and competed very well for much of the game against a strong, athletic side who made the most of the chance they created. A deserved victory for Heathlands but plenty of positives for our team.

I am pleased with the improvement our side has made over the early part of this season and I am sure we will have plenty of successful results over the coming months.

Colchester Blackwater Girls Football Tournament

Our girls' football squad took part in the Colchester & Blackwater Partnership tournament at Thurstable School on Tuesday morning. This was the first time that most of the girls have played in  competitive matches. They did themselves and the school proud by finishing fourth out of fifteen teams and were only defeated in the semi-final in a penalty shoot-out. We played seven games altogether, winning two, drawing four and losing just one. A brilliant effort by every single one of our players and they can't wait for the next opportunity to show off their skills. Our magnificent ten were ; Sally, Shauna, Megan, Carrera, Shania, Molly, Amber, Lily, Ruby and Ella - well done all of you !   

Colchester Blackwater Football Finals

Our school football team enjoyed a successful tournament at Shrub End today where we finished as joint winners. After a slow start in the first match, we played some great football and scored plenty of goals to finish with: 1 defeat, 1 draw and 7 wins. We now have a playoff game against Heathlands to decide which school goes forward to the county finals.

Colchester Blackwater Qualifying Tournament

Playing in our first tournament of the year and with a brand new team, our school football team played really well to get to the semi-finals of the Colchester Blackwater qualifying tournament. Playing some great football along the way, the team began to gel really well as both a solid defensive unit and an attacking force. We were unlucky to lose on penalties in the semi-final but played well to secure a third place finish in our final match. Because we came in the top four, we qualify for the Colchester finals on the 31st October.

Well done everyone - you played with the right attitude and super levels of skill.

Sports day 2017

Tuesday morning dawned dull and overcast, after all the sun in the last few weeks! However we decided to hang in and try to beat the rain.

With support from many staff, some family members and Year 6, the field was transformed into a sporting arena for KS1, in the morning, and KS2, in the afternoon.

The children took part in many activities ranging from throwing javelins, relay races, obstacle races, jumping and target throwing. All were competing for their houses.  A great display from all the children saw much encouragement from parents, teaching staff and peers.  We saw much pride in success and participation, alongside some funny moments which will be treasured by many.

Fortunately the rain (bar a few spots here and there) held off, allowing the completion of the day.

This was a fabulous whole school event thoroughly enjoyed by all. Many thanks to those who contributed their time and efforts so willingly in support.  It was also fantastic to see so much parent support throughout the day, the children thrive on it.

Cricket Tournament Report

Tournament Report – Ned Overbury (Captain) and Matthew Coomber

On the 3^rd July the Kelvedon Academy cricket team went to Colchester Cricket Ground and played a tournament with 10 other teams involved. When we arrived at the ground, we all had lunch and a bit of practice. Our first game was against St Thomas Moore. We played really well in our first game especially batting because we scored 314 runs thanks to Nathan scoring 21 runs of the bat.

After our first match we had a break and discussed tactics. We also watched other teams to see how good they were.

With our second match we played against St Johns and won by 60 runs with Matthew contributing 4 wickets with an amazing catch from Ned and our controlled batting. We won the match with the scores 291-3 by us and they scored 231-6.

We moved on to our 3^rd match against Friars Grove. We bowled first and restricted them to 222-2 with good economical bowling from everyone. When it came to us batting, we batted very sensibly and made 305-1. We hit the bad balls and drove the good balls to the boundaries.

Finally, coming to the last match of our group stage against Myland, we had to win this match to get to the finals. We played really tactically in bowling and fielding and only let the other team get 196-10. We batted defensively and attacking and we scored 258-2.

In the final we played against Heathlands. We batted first and scored 259-3. When we came to bowl, we bowled well but were a bit sloppy in the field. In the last over they needed 9 runs to win and Ned bowling it there was a few dot balls and then Franc got a run out that finished off the game.

Batsman of the tournament was Nathan and bowler of the tournament was Matthew this was chosen by the captain.

Kelvedon Victorious in CPSL Cricket Cup

An exciting afternoon over at Castle Park in Colchester resulted in our cricket team winning all of their matches and retaining the CPSL cricket cup. The team was expertly captained by Ned Overbury and everyone contributed during the tournament - whether it was scoring runs, bowling tightly or fielding efficiently. Match scores can be seen below and the tournament report will follow tomorrow. Well done to all of the children and thank you to Franc's mum for helping me transport the children in the mini-bus.
