Two squads entered the
Colchester Schools Tournament at Colchester Stadium.
Kelvedon 1 faced
three teams in their group and ran out comfortable group winners after securing
three victories. Like usual, some great football was played by every member of
the squad. This meant they had qualified for the semi-final.
Kelvedon 2, where
many were representing the school for the first time this season, began their
campaign with a hard fought 2-1 victory. Next, they met a strong Millfields
team but managed to secure a 1-1 draw (even though the team consisted of mainly
Y4 and Y5 players). Their final game saw the team win for the second time with
a 2-0 victory. A great showing from the team saw they finished second in the
group on goal difference.
Kelvedon 1 went
onto the semi-final and ran out comfortable winners playing beautiful football
to secure passage to the final.
With no time to rest, Kelvedon
1 met Heathlands in the final. Unfortunately, this match was a step too far
for tired players who couldn’t quite keep up with the physicality of the other
team on a scorching hot day. Although, Kelvedon went to the end they couldn’t
quite turn the match around. Respectively, they shook hands with the winners and
ended up picking us Runners-up for sixteen-team tournament, which is a great
achievement.
Some of the players were playing their final match before they
move to secondary school. They will be remembered by all the supporters for the
free flowing, attractive football they have shown all season.
