Kids' Cup Regional Finals - Wycombe Wanders

Our school football team participated in the regional finals of the Kids' Cup tournament today as representatives of our local side Colchester United.

The boys played really well throughout the group stage only losing one game (to the eventual winners) and keeping five clean sheets in the other matches. This meant we qualified for the semi-final against Leyton Orient.

The semi-final was a frustrating match for the team as we dominated from start to finish but just couldn't seem to find a way of scoring. And with the game entering extra-time, where the first team to score would win, Orient managed to find the net with their first shot on target.

I was very proud of the resilience of the team, as despite deserving a final spot, there were no tears. The eventual winners were a talented side representing Wycombe Wanders.

Our performance today bodes well for our second regional final tournament coming up in March.

Well done to everyone who played.

Player of the tournament: Franc Elmes-Wright

CPSL Football League - Prettygate 0 vs Kelvedon 4

Our school football team had to be at their resilient best to overcome the current league leaders four nil in a match against Prettygate. With a depleted squad and no substitutes, everyone played their part and really stepped up to the plate with a powerful performance. There were some tired but happy children at the end of the match. Well done everyone!

Goals - Kieran x 2, Toby x 1 and Franc x 1

Netball - Prettygate v Kelvedon 2/2/17

Year 5 and 6 second netball match
Prettygate 4 v Kelvedon 5
Year 5 and 6 played their second netball match on the 2nd February. It was against Prettygate and we were determined to play well because Prettygate had beaten us in the athletics earlier this week.
First all the children had to go to the office so Mrs Short could make sure that everyone was there. This time it was only Mrs Short and Mrs Bull because Mrs Colgrave was ill. When Mrs Short had made sure that everyone was there, we got on the bus - luckily we did not get lost like last time.
When we got there we got our bibs on and stood in our positions ready to start. We were nervous because they looked like they were good at netball and they had tall players. After 7 minutes’ Pretty gate had scored 1 and we had scored 2. 14 minutes in we had scored 2 and Prettygate had scored 2. At the end we scored 3 more times meaning we had scored 5 times and they had only scored 4.
We said hip hip hooray for Prettygate and they did the same. After that we went inside and had a drink before we left to go back to school.
We won our second match.

Sportshall Athletic finals - 1st Feb 2017

What a great event!

After making it through to the next round of the Indoor Athletics, we knew it would be big competition.  The children faced 2 schools they had already competed against, and come third to, plus the three top schools from a later round.

However, rather than shying away from the fact this would be tough, everyone rose to the occasion with aplomb.  Without doubt, every child gave 100% and neither myself, Mr Faithfull or Mr Walsh could have asked any more from them.

The final results were called out in reverse order and began with:

  • Kendall - 6th place on 68 points
  • Feering - 5th place on 72 points
  • Layer - 4th place on 142 points (previously beating Kelvedon)
  • AND in joint 2nd place on 158 points Kelvedon and Heathlands (previously beating Kelvedon)
As we were on equal scores, the decider for placement was taken down to the number of events won by each school, therefore our final placing was 3rd with Heathlands 2nd.

Overall winners were Prettygate with just two more points at 160.

As usual, we feel immensely proud of the way the children performed and competed throughout the morning.  They were delighted with their medals and the progress in their individual events was excellent.

Many thanks to Mrs Hale for helping with transport today.
