The
first tournament of 2018 saw our boys’ football team enter the EFL Kids Cup.
Confidence levels were high after a 3-0 victory over Prettygate. The first game
saw Kelvedon play St. Luke’s, which finished 0-0. Luckily, our striker Oliver Wood
scored two stunning goals assisted by Harry Taylor, which ended up a dominant
performance reaching high levels. However, a disappointing match against
Friars Grove knocked confidence levels back down seeing a 1-0 defeat end our
unbeaten streak. Lyons Hall were our fourth opponent which saw both teams go
for glory. The match was settled with a 0-0 draw. Fordham were our next
opposition. Once again, Oliver Wood was on form again scoring a magnificent two
goals assisted by Luke Towler and Sammy Taylor, leading to a further victory.
The final game of the tournament saw a strong Montgomery side strike within
minutes putting them 1-0 up, however the boys never gave up and pushed on for
an equaliser, which saw another great goal by Oliver Wood (who cannot stop
scoring) tie the game up for a 1-1 draw. Sadly, Kelvedon finished third in the
group and did not manage to qualify to the semi-final. We go again next time!
