Tag Rugby Festival - Colchester Rugby Club

Festival Report - written by Sam and Zane

On Wednesday Mr Taylor and Mr Walsh took some rugby players to Colchester to participate in a tag rugby tournament. We left at 9:20 and we arrived back at 3:30 - Mr Walsh was driving the mini bus.

There were two teams, A and B, and both did very well, however the A team won every single game. The B team nearly won all their games.

Thank you to all the teachers that make it possible to do these activities.

Friar's Grove 1 v Kelvedon 10

On the 25th of May, the girls' football team went to Friar's Grove to play their last match for Kelvedon St Mary's Primary Academy. Although we were sad it would be our last match, we all played well and made the most of it. As a result, we won the match 10 - 1. 

The goal scorers were:

Lilia: 5

Amy: 4

Morgan: 1

We all had a great time and were happy to win our last match. We would like to thank the adults who make this happen like Mr Barnes and Mrs Bull.

Breaking News - Girls' Football Result . . .

Our girls' football team, playing their final league match of the season, defeated Friar's Grove 10 v 1 this afternoon. Well done girls. Mr Faithfull

Colchester Rugby Club Festival

Yesterday, Mr Taylor’s rugby teams participated in the Colchester Tag Festival attended by over 40 schools. Both teams performed brilliantly with one going undefeated and the other only losing two of their games. Well done everyone who took part.

Here are some additional photos that were taken during Saturday's national finals by the tournament sponsor, Danone.

National Football Finals - Stoke City

On Saturday 20th May, our football team had the opportunity to represent the South East of England at the national football finals at the ground of premier league Stoke City.

The team kicked the tournament off with a 2 v 1 victory against Fair Oak Primary (representing the South West). Despite conceding an early goal, the team bounced back with two goals from Toby Murton.

Our next game was against Swanland Primary (representing North West England) which resulted in an impressive 3 v 1 victory. There were two goals from James Rissen (including a super long-range free kick) and our goal of the tournament from Luke Towler at the end of a free flowing passing move.

Our final group game was a 2 v 0 victory against Briercliffe Primary (representing North East England) where Amy and Toby, in the words of the commentator on the live stream, had an almost telepathic connection combining to score a goal each.

Such was our dominance in the group stages, that we topped the group and qualified for the semi-final against the runners up from the other group, Victoria College (presenting the Channel Islands)

The semi-final was a tense affair with Victoria College having the better of the first half and Kelvedon taking control in the second with a goal-bound header from Toby being stopped on the line. However, neither team could find a goal after 16 minutes of play and 6 extra-time minutes and the game went to penalties. Unfortunately, Victoria College prevailed and went on to win the final three nil against Fair Oak (who Kelvedon beat in the first match).

Our players were very sporting at the end as despite their disappointment they congratulated the opposition and wished them well for the final. In a game that really could have gone either way we can count ourselves unfortunate not to have made the final but proud of the performance during the tournament.

I would like to extend a big thank you to the adults from Kelvedon St Mary's who travelled to Stoke to support the team. Also, the children's parents went the extra mile by travelling up to Stoke the day before and arranging overnight accommodation in hotels in the area. As well as this, their support in the ground was comfortably the more enthusiastic and vocal - the self styled 'Barmy Army' certainly helped to drive the team on. All very much appreciated!

This tournament brings to an end our football season and what an amazingly successful season we have had. Not only have they played with skill and style they have tried as hard as they can and played each game in the correct manner. I am extremely proud and honoured to have shared their journey and hope it has created memories they will remember for a long time to come.
