CPSL Athletics competition 28/6/17

A team of 37 athletes from Years 3,4,5 and 6 set off from school this morning on route to the annual outdoor athletics competition. After the rain yesterday, we were delighted to find at least it was dry today even if the sun did not manage to shine on us.

Competing in races covering short sprints, longer sprints, long distance runs and relays our children performed excellently. Many also took part in the field events which involved long jump and cricket ball throwing.  Every single one of them gave their all and they should be extremely proud of themselves.  Several children came back with gold medals for their events which was fantastic.

A lovely experience for the Year 3 team, who were participating in competitive athletics for the first time outside of school and a memorable one for the Year 6 children who will move onto pastures new in September.  I'm hoping many of them continue to enjoy sport as much as they do now and I look forward to hearing of their future achievements.

The Year 4 and 5 team can look forward to next year and take great pride in how their performances are improving all the time.

Overall we performed incredibly well and as a result Kelvedon came an amazing 2nd in the Year 5/6 competition and 3rd in the Year 3/4 event.

Thank you to all the fabulous parent support; as ever events like this are made better by the positive support you provide. Many thanks to Mr Walsh and Mr Faithfull for their support on the day.

Netball Tournament 21st June

The netball team set out to Gilberd School for a tournament on Wednesday, hopeful of having a great day in the sun with some super netball thrown in.
Playing against 13 teams was a challenge however they made it through to the finals.  Facing St Mary's School from Colchester the children excelled themselves and came away with silver medals, having lost 4-3 in extra time at the final hurdle.

Full report to be uploaded from children shortly.  Photos of this brilliant day are below.

Many thanks to Mrs Colgrave for umpiring and Mrs Short for her side line coaching. Also thanks to Mrs Bovington for driving the team there and providing extra support.

                             Kelvedon vs Montgomery netball match

Written by Maddy Ware and Megan Kilgour

Yesterday, Kelvedon’s netball team -who played really well- had a match against Montgomery. They played at home winning 10-3. The first two goals were scored by Evie Kettle, what an amazing way to start the game. It was a great achievement for Kelvedon as it was the first time they have won at home after unfortunately losing to Gosbecks for their first home game. Montgomery did very well but Kelvedon were still victorious. After the game Kelvedon invited Montgomery for refreshments in the cookie cave.

Well done Kelvedon!
