Sportshall Athletics Yr 3/4

Today a team of Year 3/4 athletes travelled to Essex University in Colchester for an indoor athletic competition.  The children competed in a wide range of field and track events featuring speed bouncing, jumping, throwing and obstacle and relay races.  All these events allow for individual ability to shine through with team skills as well. The children competed in pairs or fours and had great support from their accompanying team mates.

We competed alongside 9 schools and came 6th overall. This event was a wonderful opportunity for some of the children to represent the school in a sporting event for the first time and they all performed excellently, making us proud to be there with them. Well done to all of you.

Many thanks for the parental support we had too, it was much appreciated.

CBSSP - Girls' Football Tournament

Congratulations to our girls' football team who finished as runners-up in the Colchester & Blackwater Sports Partnership Tournament at Thurstable School on 13 November. For many of the players it was their first experience of an organised competition and to finish 2nd out of 13 teams is an outstanding achievement. In the group stage they won 5 and drew 1 of their 6 games, won 1-0 in the semi-final and only went down by the odd goal in a very closely contested final. Well done girls you did the school proud! Colchester Blackwater Colchester Finals

After our tournament success before half term, a team of year fives and sixes went to Shrub End to play the Colchester football finals.

We started strongly and passed the ball really well and over the course of the tournament scored lots of great goals. Details of the results and goal scorers can be found below. Overall, we finished third out of eight teams which is a very credible result and shows the team is starting to come together. We have a number of league fixtures to play before Easter which will allow the children, and others that attend Monday night football, to further hone their individual and team skills.

Congratulations to the children that represented the school today.

Colchester Blackwater Football Tournament

In the absence of our year six footballers, a team of year five children travelled to Colchester, Shrub End to compete in the Colchester Blackwater football tournament. The tournament acts as a qualifier for the Colchester finals in November.

The squad was made up of children from both year five classes with all but two representing the school in football for the first time.

Here were the results:

Kelvedon 1 v 0 Colchester High
Kelvedon 0 v 2 Friar's Grove
Kelvedon 3 v 0 Maldon Primary
Kelvedon 2 v 0 Langenhoe Primary

I was very impressed with the level of skill and resilience shown by the boys. They recovered so well from a defeat in the second game and played with such confidence despite competing against mainly year six players, Because of the results they achieved, Kelvedon have qualified for the Colchester finals. Everyone who played should be proud of their performance.

With football club starting on Monday, everyone will have the opportunity to train and try to win a place in the squad for the finals.
