CPSL football tournament - Colchester United

Our school football teams had another highly successful day at the CPSL football tournament played at Colchester United Community Stadium.

Our first team went through the tournament undefeated and successfully defended the trophy they won last year - results can be seen below.

Our second team did fantastically well to win their group and only narrowly lost on a penalty shootout in the semi-final.

A great all-round day for our school - well done to everyone who took part. Both teams really appreciated the support from parents and family members in the stadium too - another team manager commented on how they could hear how well backed the school was from the other side of the ground.

If you click here - you can view copies of the photos taken by the professional photographer at the ground and place an order if desired.

Netball Tournament 3/5/17

On the 3rd of May, Kelvedon St Mary’s went to a netball tournament in Colchester, at Gilberd School. We left at 8:45 am and arrived back at 12:20pm. Mrs Short and Mrs Colgrave took us and Mrs Bovington drove the mini bus.
We played matches against 8 teams and won all our games except for one which we drew. The other teams and scores were:

Kelvedon 2 - 1 Old Heath 1
Kelvedon 5 - 0 Old Heath 2
Kelvedon 5 - 0 St Lukes
Kelvedon 2 - 1 Colchester High
Kelvedon 7 - 1 St Francis
Kelvedon 0 - 0 Feering
Kelvedon 2 - 0 Home Farm
Kelvedon 2 - 1 Stanway Fiveways

You were given three points for a win; two for a draw and one for a loss. We won seven of our games and drew one. In total we got 23 points and a total of 25 goals. As a result we won the tournament and each received a gold medal each; even Mrs Short and Mrs Colgrave got one. We now look forward to going on to the Essex finals.

Thank you to all the staff who helped organise and arrange the netball tournament.

Athletics Finals' Day 2017

For two days last week the children competed against each other to secure first, second and third place in their year group in several events.  On Tuesday afternoon those children who had been successful in qualifying for the finals in throwing and jumping competed in beautiful sunshine. Unfortunately the weather on Wednesday was not on our side and therefore the running events had to be postponed.  By Friday morning though things were looking much better and so the end of the week saw the children competing in sprint finals and long distance races with the support of KS2 and staff.
The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the children did exceedingly well.  Certificates will be handed out this week.  Within school we certainly have a great deal of talent in sport and it was lovely to see so many children shining.

Girls' Football - Montgomery 1 v Kelvedon 4

Our girls' football team beat Montgomery 4 v 1 this afternoon. Well done girls!

Yesterday, the girl’s football team travelled to Montgomery primary school in Colchester. The girls played fantastically and won 4-1.  They were 1-0 down until Lilia shot but hit their keeper.  Amy then tapped in the rebound. Then the half time whistle blew. There was a lot of pressure from both teams making the half time score 1-1.

The second half kicked off. After a few minutes, Lilia then nicked another goal off of Montgomery to make it 2-1.  After a lot more pressure, Amy shot and she tipped the ball over the top of the keeper making it 3-1. Just before the whistle blew for full time, Amy and Ruby passed the ball back and forth to each other and then Amy got her hat-rick and tapped the ball in (4-1). The whistle blew for full time. Another victory for Kelvedon St Mary’s Girl’s football team to be proud of.
