Colchester Schools Tournament at Colchester Stadium

Two squads entered the Colchester Schools Tournament at Colchester Stadium.

Kelvedon 1 faced three teams in their group and ran out comfortable group winners after securing three victories. Like usual, some great football was played by every member of the squad. This meant they had qualified for the semi-final.

Kelvedon 2, where many were representing the school for the first time this season, began their campaign with a hard fought 2-1 victory. Next, they met a strong Millfields team but managed to secure a 1-1 draw (even though the team consisted of mainly Y4 and Y5 players). Their final game saw the team win for the second time with a 2-0 victory. A great showing from the team saw they finished second in the group on goal difference.

Kelvedon 1 went onto the semi-final and ran out comfortable winners playing beautiful football to secure passage to the final.

With no time to rest, Kelvedon 1 met Heathlands in the final. Unfortunately, this match was a step too far for tired players who couldn’t quite keep up with the physicality of the other team on a scorching hot day. Although, Kelvedon went to the end they couldn’t quite turn the match around. Respectively, they shook hands with the winners and ended up picking us Runners-up for sixteen-team tournament, which is a great achievement. 

Some of the players were playing their final match before they move to secondary school. They will be remembered by all the supporters for the free flowing, attractive football they have shown all season.

Rugby Tournament Kelvedon

We took two squads to play in the annual Colchester and District Tag Rugby Tournament at Colchester Rugby Club organised by Colchester 6th Form College and Sport Leadership. The weather was kind to us and the children (like usual) made the whole day brilliant. Thank you to the parents and friends that turned up to support us or help with transport. Both teams played brilliantly, showing respect towards the opposition and great teamwork among themselves. The tournament, hosting 44 teams and 11 leagues, began with random groups. After the morning session, the groups were reorganised by the resulting positions.

Kelvedon 1

Started their 1st group with a draw (3-3) and then 3 wins (6-0, 7-0 and 2-0) brought us out as group winners.

In the afternoon they were put in the 2nd league and went on to win every game to show they were one of the most talented teams. Some supporters from other teams commented on the effective defence strategy we used. Our children were ferocious in defence and ran great support plays in attack.

Kelvedon 2

In the morning, the players came up against some tough opponents and narrowly lost all four matches (by an odd goal).

However, in the afternoon group they managed to draw one match (3-3) and won two matches (4-3 and 4-1).

The highlight was everyone scoring a try and the great team support they had throughout their play. Their captain Jack offered instruction and encouragement and led the team really well.

Well done both teams for representing Kelvedon in the usual perfect way.

CPSL Football League - Montgomery 1 v Kelvedon 0

In our last league match of the season, our football team put in a good performance despite narrowly losing one nil to Montgomery Junior school. Despite having the better of the second half, and creating many goal scoring opportunities, we were unable to find a breakthrough. Our final league position is yet to be confirmed however we finish with a record of played 8, won 6 and lost 2. Well done to everyone who has represented the school this year. Mr Faithfull

St James 1 v Kelvedon 3

   AFTER MATCH REPORT - Kelvedon v St James

On Thursday the 26^th of April, St James hosted Kelvedon, who lined up in their penultimate game of football. The game started off in Kelvedon’s favour as Luke Towler played a through ball into Lewis Banks who finished calmly. Could Kelvedon keep up the pressure? They did until St James scored from a set piece. Shortly after it ended 1-1 at the break. Kelvedon were keeping the possession and it could have been more in the first half for them.  St James were eager to complete the comeback and they had high hopes for the second half.

At the start of the second half, St James were trying to keep possession but Evan McIness was strong and won the ball back. Then he passed it to James Rogers who made the killer pass to Luke Towler who slotted it home. St James did not let their heads drop as they nearly converted through a header which unfortunately for them hit the crossbar. Kelvedon were playing the ball out well when suddenly Adam Lillywhite made a fantastic cross-field pass to Oliver Wood who hit the target and beat the keeper. Moments later, Lewis Banks pressured the ball and forced a throw in to be taken. A mistake was made as the St James player mistook Luke Towler as their player so he played a through ball to Ollie who calmly finished. The game finshed 3-1 to Kelvedon!

Breaking News . . .

Kelvedon defeated St James' Primary School in our penultimate league football match. The children showed great determination and resilience to defeat a well organised and spirited opposition.

Athletics Finals Day

Today, jumping, throwing and running lay ahead of the KS2 children who had already competed in their classes to make the finals. We made good use of the latest addition to our facilities, a long jump pit, in the morning with the long jump finals running alongside the throwing competition. The running races followed in the afternoon, where parents were welcomed in to support the children racing in both short distance and long distance runs.

The children performed incredibly well and should all be very proud of their efforts.  The support from the children for each other was wonderful as was the continued support from the parents.

Many thank you to all those who helped the afternoon run smoothly.

Gosbeck 0 v Kelvedon 8

Our school football team played in a match away at Gosbecks Primary School earlier today. In sweltering heat, the boys put in their best performance of the season, completing an 8 nil victory. I was very impressed with the way they passed the ball (on a tough pitch) and kept up their fitness levels despite the heat. Well done! Mr Faithfull
