Colchester Blackwater Football Tournament

In the absence of our year six footballers, a team of year five children travelled to Colchester, Shrub End to compete in the Colchester Blackwater football tournament. The tournament acts as a qualifier for the Colchester finals in November.

The squad was made up of children from both year five classes with all but two representing the school in football for the first time.

Here were the results:

Kelvedon 1 v 0 Colchester High
Kelvedon 0 v 2 Friar's Grove
Kelvedon 3 v 0 Maldon Primary
Kelvedon 2 v 0 Langenhoe Primary

I was very impressed with the level of skill and resilience shown by the boys. They recovered so well from a defeat in the second game and played with such confidence despite competing against mainly year six players, Because of the results they achieved, Kelvedon have qualified for the Colchester finals. Everyone who played should be proud of their performance.

With football club starting on Monday, everyone will have the opportunity to train and try to win a place in the squad for the finals.

Kelvedon World Cup - 2018

During the summer term, different teams took part in our annual Kelvedon World Cup.

The world cup final was between Bobstars v Galaxy. The winners were Bobstars who ran around the field with the trophy.

Thanks to the referees: Mr Faithfull, Mr Taylor, Mr Barnes, Mr Walsh and Mr Ladlow.

Sports Day 2018

10th July 2018 dawned for this years Sports Day, a little cooler than previous days which was a huge advantage.  With a great amount of team effort the field quickly became a sports arena for KS1 to start the day off.  The children were excited to get going and there was tremendous support from parents who took up viewing places in the middle of the field. A fantastic morning continued with the children taking part in obstacle races, shuttle relays, bean bag throwing, javelin throwing and hitting the stumps.  Competing for their houses, the children worked really hard to win as many points as possible.
At 12.30pm just as the activities ended, KS2 came out to join KS1 and parents for a family picnic on the junior field.  As luck would have it, today also coincided with the 100 year celebration of the RAF fly past conveniently timed to fly over at lunch.  This was an amazing sight for any of us to see and with the earlier cloud cleared we had a great view.
At 1.30pm, with the field transformed for the older children, there began an afternoon of activity. With ten events for each class to compete in there was plenty of opportunity for everyone to participate. Jumping, throwing, hockey, netball, football, relays, sack racing and more entertained us all for the duration of the afternoon.
Finally, just in time for the last bell of the day every event was complete.  A quick check of the scores with Mr Taylor and it was confirmed that Scott were the KS2 winners of sports day.  Coincidentally KS1 winners were also Scott.  Big well done to them.

Many thanks to all the staff and family members that helped set up, run the activities, score and generally see that the children were all cared for and had a great time.

CPSL Cricket Tournament

In the absence of our year six cricketers, who were enjoying their play leader reward in Clacton, our year fives attended a cricket tournament in Colchester. The competition was strong and we were narrowly defeated in the first game against St Thomas Moore. Our performance improved in the second game although we came up against a strong bowling team and again fell to defeat against St Johns (a). In our final game, we played well and defeated St James.
