Colchester tournament - Kelvedon qualify for finals

On October 10^th 2019, Kelvedon travelled to Shrub End to attempt to qualify for the Colchester Football Finals. Alfie (the captain), Joe, Jamie, Nathan, Finley, Emilio, Alex and Felix were the talented footballers who accompanied Mr Faithfull and Mr Barnes to this tournament. Kelvedon played 5 matches to qualify. The first match was against Wentworth. After a good first half, Kelvedon found themselves 1-0 up. At full time, Kelvedon had doubled their lead giving them a good start. The next challenge was against St Johns in which Kelvedon scored 3 great goals including a penalty (which occurred when a defender knocked Alfie off of his feet) which Emilio belted into the top corner. In the next game, St Teresa battled hard and it was a reasonably even game until Kelvedon finally found the goal they needed late in the second half ending the game with a 1-0 victory. Another hard game presented it’s self when Kelvedon came up against St Luke’s. This game was another 1-0 triumph to Kelvedon –the goal this time presenting its self at the end of the first half. The next competition was against Chapel and this was the game that Kelvedon were finally beaten. After a disappointing performance from Kelvedon and a good performance from Chapel, at half time, Kelvedon found themselves 2-0 down. However, after a talk for their manager, Kelvedon raised their game and fought back to bag themselves a goal. Kelvedon had some more decent chances but the Chapel keeper denied them time and time again. When the full time whistle blew, Kelvedon were 2-1 down- their first loss of the tournament and their season. Fortunately, the earlier results were enough to see Kelvedon top their group and qualify for the next round.

Sports Day 2019

As the day started with drizzle it could only mean one thing - Sports Day!  However the rain only lasted for a short while and by the time KS1 came out to begin their morning it was dry and warm.  The children took part in five events with a rest at some point to recover.   This year the activities were an obstacle race, shuttle run, hit the stumps, bean bag throw and egg and spoon race.  With some super explaining and demonstrating from the Year 6 helpers the children began their competition. Surrounded by positive support from families and friends everyone had a great morning. You could hear cheering and encouragement among the children as they urged their teams on.  Scores were kept updated as went along which meant we were able to announce the results just before lunchtime. This years final results for KS1 sports day were:

1st - Drake
2nd - Wellington
3rd - Scott
4th - Marlborough

After a lovely family picnic, it was time for KS2 Sports Day to commence.  This year saw the introduction of some new events alongside some favourites.  The children were challenged in many skills including target hitting, running, team work and ball control.  Yet again there was a lovely atmosphere of support from each other and families as the classes moved around 8 activities in all to win as many points for their team as they could. Scores were ably kept updated by Mr Taylor which meant through the afternoon the children were aware of how quickly it could all change. Finally,  as the last activity came to its end and everyone gathered round to hear the overall result, which was as follows:

1st - Wellington

2nd - Marlborough

3rd - Scott

4th - Drake

 Many thanks to those who helped out during the day, it really is much appreciated. Overall it was a fabulous day with lots of enjoyment had by all.

CPSL District Sports

What an amazing day!  42 children came to take part in the District Athletics today.  We were among 20 other schools, so with a long day of heats and finals ahead we found shade under the trees for our base.

This event is fantastically organised and runs seamlessly.  The Year 3/4 children start off the running races while the Year 5/6 compete in throwing and jumping.  Then the events switch round. We gained a few medals along the way for the jumping and throwing events across all year groups. Once all the heats have been run, the finals commenced.  All to play for and the pace seemed to pick up!

The long distance runners wait a long time for their races but it's well worth it, as they competed in the last few rounds of competition. We have some exceptional athletes in our school and these runners performed brilliantly. Last races of the day are the relay finals, where some true battles of spirit took place.

Onto results time.  LKS2 (3/4) came first overall with UKS2 (5/6) finishing in second place overall.
We have never finished with such a strong result across both key stages.  I am immensely proud of the whole team today.  You performed with spirit and great sportsmanship, (lots of handshaking of friends at the finish line); everyone displayed the Kelvedon ethos and supported each other superbly.

Many thanks to the parents who helped with transport and came to support so willingly.  It is much appreciated.

CPSL Football Tournament

Our school football team competed in the CPSL football tournament today at Colchester United Community Stadium. We were drawn in a group with Bishop William Ward, Friar's Grove and another local primary school. Unfortunately, one school was unable to attend so as a result it was agreed that each team in our group would play each other twice.

Here were the results:

Kelvedon 2 v  Friar's Grove 0

Kelvedon 2 v Bishop William Ward 0

Kelvedon 1 v Bishop William Ward 0

I was ever so impressed with the committed attitude we displayed in these matches and our willingness to get stuck in a compete with other strong sides.

In the semi final, we defeated Heathlands 2 v 0 thanks to a very solid performance.

The final against Prettygate was a tense affair with few chances and the end score was 0 v 0. Unfortunately, in the resulting penalty shoot out we were unable to match our opponents powerful shots and fell to a defeat.

Overall, I thought we played some splendid football during the tournament, showed the right level of determination and kept things very solid in the back meaning we didn't concede a single goal.

CPSL Large Schools Football League

Our school football team has been competing in the CPSL large schools football league this season. Here is the final league table showing that we finished in a very credible second place. Well done to everyone who played in the school team this season.
