Athletics Finals Day - 5th May 2021

 How absolutely wonderful to be able to get the children together for our first competition in at least a year:)

Athletics Finals Day is all about finding and celebrating our athletes in each year group.  Every child competed in the heats in their own classes to make the semi-finals and finals that were concluded yesterday.

The competition comprises of running, both sprints and long distance, throwing and jumping.  Athletics is one of my favourite sports because there are so many opportunities for the children to surprise us and themselves, so yesterday was a fab day!

There were lovely moments of sportsmanship among the children as well as heaps of resilience shown by many.  We had a fantastic crowd of supporters with plenty of cheering and the weather held out - thank goodness.

Thank you to the many members of staff that enabled the success of the day too.

Heathlands 2 v 0 Kelvedon 

Football: Kelvedon 7 v Prettygate 1

Kelvedon vs Prettygate

On Tuesday 10^th of March, Prettygate travelled to Kelvedon to play an exciting game of football. Joe and Felix both scored two goals and Alfie and Nathan both scored one each with an additional unlucky own goal. Prettygate got one back.  Both teams played exceptionally well but at the full time whistle it was Kelvedon who came out on top with a victory of seven one. Sport vs Monkwick Junior School

Our sports teams had mixed results on a recent visit to Monkwick Junior school in Colchester.

Our netball team, coached by Miss Reece, ran out 9 v 1 winners with several great goals and a powerful all-round team performance.

Our football team, despite playing well and creating several great chances in the first half, ended up on the wrong end of a one nil defeat.

The children particularly enjoyed playing both sports on the same evening and travelling to the school together on the school minibus. This helped to create a real team environment where they could support each other. Thank you to those parents who supported both teams.

EFL Football Tournament

Our school football team competed in the EFL football tournament today hosted by Colchester United. The standard of football was strong as was the physical strength of some of our opponents.

We finished the tournament with a credible seven points after achieving 2 wins and a draw in our 6 games. A special mention to Harry D for scoring a hat trick in one of the matches.

Sportshall Athletics

Today,  a team of year five and six athletes set off to Essex university for the Indoor Sportshall Athletic event. We competed against four other teams in various field and track events in an attempt to win ourselves a place in the final, which will take place in January.

The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part and were superb supporters of each other.  We learnt a few new things along the way, such as using a rebound board and developed our use of baton exchanges in the relays. It was a great performance by everybody and a good example of how Kelvedon children behave when we are out and about as a school, so well done to all.

We will hopefully find out the results by tomorrow morning so I will be able to let the children know whether we have qualified for the next round.  Fingers crossed.

National League Football Tournament

On a bitterly cold day in Braintree, our school football team competed in the National League football tournament arranged by Braintree Town F.C.

The squad included children who had played regularly for the school before and some that were experiencing their first competitive action.

The team experienced mixed results: a strong start in the fast game and a great comeback in the second game were two highlights. Unfortunately, we did not achieve enough points to progress from our group. At the end of the tournament, we spoke as a group about the things we want to keep doing in future tournaments and matches and the areas where we would like to improve.

I hope all of the children have thawed out for today's learning and thank you to the parents that came along to support the team. The hot drink from Alex's dad was much appreciated! Also, thank you to Mr Barnes who attended the tournament with me.
